Pom Pom Earrings: DIY

By Angela Macias

  • Pliers
  • Chain from an old necklace (optional)
  • Scissors (optional)
  • 4 jump rings
  • 2 earring closures (the thing that looks like a fish hook)
  • Needle and thread
  • 2 pom poms
  • Ruler

I bought an earring repair kit that came with a mini pair of pliers, earring closures, jump rings, and earring backs at Michael's. I've also seen them at places like JCPenney and Dressbarn. The only other purchase I had to make was the pom poms (MIchael's). Everything else can be found around the house!

Step 1 (Optional)

Cut the chain from an old necklace into two equal parts. I prefer mine to be 2", but it can be any length you choose.

Step 2

Use the pliers to open the jump rings. Attach one to either side of each chain and an earring closure to each jump ring. If you chose not to use a chain, attach each earring closure to one jump ring.

Step 3

Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end. Sew the pom pom to the jump ring by inserting it and pulling it through. Then, insert it again before going through the jump ring so that it's on the same side as the knot, making it less notable. Keep doing this to secure the pompom to the jump ring before tying the knot. Now, you're ready to go!
