My Country Isn't A Country

My country isn't a country, as much as I want it to be it cannot.
My country isn’t a country, and they say to be? “It shouldn’t.”
My country isn’t a country, my flag was confiscated when I was eleven and was told by the teachers that I was trying to promote an anti-government idea.
My country isn’t a country, my passport has been questioned at the airport for its validity.
My country isn’t a country, yet when I was small I thought it was, and to doubt was pure stupidity
My country isn’t a country, the amount of flights going back has been decreasing since I moved away from home.
My country isn’t a country, the question itself to many, is a conundrum.
My country isn’t a country, I can’t speak of those words without the raise of an eyebrow.
My country isn’t a country, how?
My country isn’t a country, the amount of times the name of my country has caused confusion or mockery is uncountable.
My country isn’t a country, to many the status is still debatable.
My country isn't a country, sometimes I don’t know why I bother fighting with people, insisting that it is.
My country isn't a country, the decision isn’t hers or his.
My country isn’t a country, I often find myself being stressed or frustrated with it.
My country isn’t a country, if it was true, it wouldn’t be hard to admit.
My country isn’t a country, I don’t know how to come to terms with it.
My country isn’t a country, there’s no way to say it with a little wit.
My country isn’t a country, does that make me a misfit?
My country isn’t a country, we’re not under the protection or care of others.
My country isn’t a country, this problem has been there at the times of my brother’s.
My country isn’t a country, only twenty-two countries in the whole wide world are in diplomatic relationships with us.
My country isn’t a country, I am so frustrated but I’d hate to cuss.
My country isn’t a country, other countries fear to be close, to know us, to stay out of trouble with China.
My country isn’t a country, as the rise of China happened, everyone began stepping away of us.
My country isn’t a country, I often receive mockery from my classmates.
My country isn’t a country, I wish this title was clickbait.
My country isn’t a country, during United Nations day parades at school, I have to be under a flag where I’m surrounded by ones who mock us.
My country isn’t a country, and the idea of me waving my own flag is such a trembling thought that makes every single strand of my hair stand.
My country isn’t a country, when will the day come where we will be banned?
My country isn’t a country, why are the people suffering, why are the people being mocked?
My country isn’t a country, I’m so afraid of that the day it will become more real than it is now.
My country isn’t a country, but one day I’ll make a change, I vow.
My country isn’t a country, I’m covered with the fear of the negative possibilities.
My country isn’t a country, we’re covered with vulnerabilities.
My country isn’t a country, ever so kindly, I wish it was.
My country isn’t a country, and that made me pause.
My country isn’t a country, this could be seen as an irrational fear, but I’m so afraid of the day war comes.
My country isn’t a country, it’s a fear I want to overcome.
My country isn’t a country, yet I stand in the very land that made it so.
My country isn’t a country, yet I love it so dearly without a doubt.
My country isn’t a country, even though I might think it’s so.
My country isn’t a country, my country is Taiwan.
My country isn’t a country, it’s just two thousand one hundred and two kilometers away from its worst nightmare.
My country isn’t a country, it is a ticking time bomb that could go off any second.
My country isn’t a country, I fear for its future, I fear for my own, I fear for the ones after me.
My country isn’t a country, but it is to me.

  1. These are things I can only imagine going through, so reading personal experiences like this, especially when conveyed so beautifully, opens a new kind of door for me. The visual looks so raw, scanned from a paper drawing, enhancing the authenticity of the piece. Well done.
