Plant-Based Q&A

Q: How do I resist temptation?
A: This is honestly one of the hardest parts of transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle. One of the biggest misconceptions about vegetarianism and veganism is that you are constantly eating healthy, but this is not the case. Even though you aren’t eating meat or animal products, it is still extremely easy to not eat the best foods. Temptation is the strongest at the beginning, especially if you don’t have a strong support system behind you. Most animal products have a vegan substitute, though, and are just as goodif not betterthan the original.

Q: Will becoming vegetarian lead me to become lactose intolerant?
A: This can be a major concern for a lot of people when transitioning to a plant-based diet. When becoming vegetarian, you can still consume dairy and lactose, so this shouldn’t be an issue. But, when transitioning to veganism, you cut out dairy. This could possibly lead to a lactose intolerance, but this shouldn’t be an issue if you are becoming vegan, since you shouldn’t want to consume dairy products!

Q: What are good alternatives for favorite non-vegan foods?
A: Almost every food that isn’t vegan has a vegan alternative! Many brands make dairy products out of cashews, almonds, and various other nuts and plant-based items. Cashew cheese is a favorite among many vegans, especially for mac & cheese! Becoming vegan doesn’t mean you have to cut out your favorite non-vegan foods!

Q: What are some vegan-friendly food brands?
A: Daiya, Follow Your Heart, Annie’s, Amy’s, Gardein, and SoDelicious are all vegan or have vegan options!

Q: What are some of your favorite quick and easy vegan recipes?
A: One of my favorites is making fries out of different potatoes. All you do is cut them in the shape of fries, season them, and then bake them. They are delicious and good for you! I also love making smoothies and smoothie bowls.

Q: What are some of your favorite vegan foods?
A: Since I was little, I have always loved fruits and vegetables, so becoming plant-based was not difficult for me. I love almost every fruit and vegetable, and I love transforming them in many ways so I don’t get tired of them. I also love rice. A vegan guilty pleasure of mine is cashew milk ice cream which is amazing, and vegan ranch is really good too!

Q: How do I get enough protein?

A: One of the biggest myths about stopping the consumption of animal products is that you won’t get enough protein. This is untrue! Protein is in everything, and by eating a good amount of fruits and vegetables, you will get enough protein. If you eat enough whole plant foods, you will be good to go! If you’re still worried about protein, though, there are many good vegan protein powders that can be incorporated into anything! I use the Garden of Life Raw Organic protein powder in my smoothies!
