Tyler Versus Tyler

Tyler The Creator has always been one of my favorite artists. From the get-go, his ability to surprise his listeners with new, unique vibes has always been amazing. Tyler’s career began to flourish as Odd Future provided him with a community and the opportunities to express himself through his music. Tyler carefully crafted beats and lyrics that made a statement to his audience. Tyler’s approach to making expressive music music generally consisted of yelling over outrageous, exceptional beats. In 2015, Cherry Bomb was released; Tyler demonstrated his range in capability. "DEATHCAMP," the first song on the album, mixes hip-hop with rap perfectly. Then, there's "Find Your Wings," my personal favorite. Its smooth jazz vibe is paired perfectly with Tyler's lyrics. These songs have two completely different sounds!

Two years later, in 2017, Tyler released his most personal album, Flower Boy. Tyler cut out the outrage and went for a more sentimental vibe. It's a phenomenal album with features from Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky, and Rex Orange County! Each song on this album represents Tyler’s feelings, allowing his listeners to truly connect. Tyler’s transitions through his music illustrate his growth as an artist and a person. His personal life experiences transformed his music and permitted him to shift from a static artist to a uniquely dynamic force.
