Bloom in the Rough

This set attempts to capture the pride I have in being exactly who I am without caving to what society expects from me. Unfortunately, many teens and young adults do not have the freedom to show completely who they are; hence, I decided to not include the subjects’ entire faces or identities, as different people only see small parts of what the models represent due to overwhelming prejudice. This is one of my favorite pieces to date as I was able to show my pride through my closest friends, and display how my friends make me a better version of myself. Pride takes time, but having people close to you to confide in makes it easier. I chose to use both blush and bold coloring to represent growing into your own skin. It's freeing to show your true identity.
